A unit of study in the Communications Co-Major and Minor.
To introduce students to the range of skills required of the professional writer of fiction. These include creating character, dialogue and dramatic tension. Learning Objectives After completing this unit of study students are expected to understand the processes involved in writing fiction. Students are expected to develop skills in: Writing characters, dialogue and plots Undertaking library research Presenting their work in a professional manner. Clear and effective communication
After completing this unit of study students are expected to understand the processes involved in writing fiction.
Students are expected to develop skills in:
Lectures (2 hours), tutorials (1 hour) and independent study
First creative piece (30%) Class Presentation & participation: (25%) Final folio (45%)

Students are introduced to the techniques of critical and creative thinking. This unit of study teaches students how to build a story by focusing on exploring both rational and irrational processes; the role of conjectural thinking, intuition and luck; the use of analogies, metaphors, and associative thinking; perceiving and creating relationships. Emphasis is placed on the participant as writer and critic. concepts such as point of view; voice; form; style; plot; tone; and description.
