LTT100 Introduction to Tourism

Effective 2010, current students refer unit outline. Co-badged with TOU26 Tourism Enterprise Development (Open Universities Australia) This is a prescribed unit of study in the Business Major/s. It may also be undertaken as a unit of study in any other Swinburne degree program, subject to the prerequisite and degree requirements.
• To locate individual enterprises in the tourism system. • To explain the processes involved in feasibility studies and attraction development. • To critically analyse the management and marketing of existing attractions. • To develop the ability to implement effective management plans. • To facilitate informed predictions about the future of the attractions sector.
This unit will be taught in a variety of modes including face to face, online, distance and blended modes. Delivery of this unit may be through a mixture of lectures, tutorials, laboratories, seminars and online.
Research essay 25 - 35% Group task 10 - 20% Exam 45 – 55%
This unit will provide discipline-based knowledge and professional capabilities and experiences contributing to students progress in attaining generic skills such as: • teamwork skills • problem solving skills • communications skills • ability to tackle unfamiliar problems • ability to work independently
