Aims & Objectives:

Participants are challenged to understand the interrelated issues governing design and production in the field of print, with the aim of incorporating a high level of craft and strong knowledge of the technical and financial implications of design choices in the practice of digital design.

Teaching Methods:

Technology tutorials are delivered in a studio environment through lectures, discussions, demonstrations and critiques.

Assessment:

100% project work. Project briefs clearly define submission requirements and due dates but participants are responsible for actively participating in this process to develop a clear understanding of assessment requirements. Formative feedback is given throughout the teaching period to allow participants to develop their work for final submission. Assessment occurs at the end of the teaching period.

Content:

The subject provides instruction in the increasingly complex nature of preparing design deliverables for digital printing. Its role is to enhance design opportunities for participants by expanding their understanding of what it is possible to produce. Acquisition of advanced software knowledge allows participants to understand the technology of communication design in order to produce more informed and ambitious projects. The environmental impact of the printing options is explored.

Reading Materials:

Due to the constantly changing nature of design technologies and applications, up-to-date software references are distributed in the first week of class.
