Aims & Objectives:

On the completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  • Explore the link between HR and strategy
  • Learn to critically evaluate the applicability of theory in a given context
  • Critically evaluate HR practices from an entrepreneurial perspective
  • Practice problem solving skills
  • Make HR related recommendations to foster innovation and creativity
  • Carry out an entrepreneurial audit of an organisation

Teaching Methods:

Lecture (2 hours), Tutorial (1 hour)

Assessment:

Tests (15%), Examination (45%), Group assignment (40%)

  • National and industrial-level context of entrepreneurship
  • Theoretical frameworks that link a firm’s HR practices with its strategy

  • HR levers that might enhance and support creativity and innovation
  • Why firms lose their entrepreneurial edge
  • How HR can help organisations reinvent themselves
