It is highly advisable that students complete all foundation business units of study before enrolling in this unit of study. Competence in the following software packages is expected: MS Word and MS PowerPoint.

Aims & Objectives:

At the completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  • Assess the economic, political and business environments in the Southeast Asian region
  • Assess potential business opportunities, competition and threats in doing business in the Southeast Asian region given the economic situation of the region
  • Use various methodologies to develop regional and country strategies and entry modes for doing business in Southeast Asia
  • Develop regional and country strategies and entry modes for doing business in Southeast Asia
  • Make decisions using skills developed in researching case studies to update normative knowledge of the region 
  • Present findings in a group oral and written consultancy report

Teaching Methods:

Lecture/seminars (3 hours per week)

Lecture/seminars and case study presentations will be used to introduce the topics and resources, demonstrate concepts, and provide a forum for demonstration, discussion and questions.

Assessment:

Team Peer Assessment (5%-10%)
Evidence of Preparation and Participation in Tutorials (10%-15%)
Group Case Study Presentation and Written Report (20%-30%)
Final Assessment (40-50%)

Today's evolving business environment in the South East Asian region.
 
Issues that influence business in South East Asia to include topics such as the following:
  • Corporate social responsibility and ethics,
  • Management, globalization and regional integration,
  • Political, economic, socio-cultural, technological and legal frameworks specifically significant for South East Asia.
