The aim of this unit is to introduce manufacturing and engineering students to the basic principles of Quality Management in general, and Six Sigma based tools and methodologies in particular, including Concept of Quality, Quality Control and Assurance, Quality Management Systems. At the completion of this unit, students should be able to: Develop an understanding of Quality systems, Quality Policies and Quality Management Gain skills in the use of key Quality Tools critical Quality Standards Understand Quality Audits Provide a critique of a nominated company actual quality system Demonstrate a good understanding of the numerous techniques, tools and methodologies used in Six Sigma Apply the principles of Six Sigma as used in Engineering and Asset Management Appreciate the utilisation of Quality/Six Sigma /Lean throughout the total life cycle of the Manufacturing or Asset Management processes. Assess the role of Toyota Production System in creating some key Quality systems in manufacturing Understand the use Sigma Tools to eliminate waste in Production
