Related Course/s:

A unit of study in the Master of Technology (Business Systems).

Aims & Objectives:

The purpose of this project-based unit is to provide an opportunity for each participant to integrate their learning by planning, researching and designing an information systems or sustainable business project. The approach taken will be research based and appropriately contextualised to the specific environment within which the project resides.
 
Upon completion of the unit, students should be able to:
  • Develop a research design as the blue print for fulfilling research objectives and answering key research questions
  • Carry out a literature review of work relevant to a business issue
  • Identify target populations and the sampling process as appropriate
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the ethics application process
  • Prepare and submit an ethics application for approval
  • Report on research findings as appropriate
  • Contextualise research findings and conclusions to address dynamic business needs

Teaching Methods:

Online/Blended

This unit will be taught using a combination of online meetings, lectures and learning objects.

Assessment:

Assignment 1: Literature review 20-30%

Assignment 2: Draft research proposal 30-40%

Assignment 3: Final research proposal and ethics application draft 30-50%

  • Build on preliminary project identification from MTB820 Business Research Methods
  • Skill needs analysis, intelligence and literature search
  • Skills development plan and implementation including: Research Data Analysis.
  • Survey Instrument Design
  • Statements of Consent
  • Project Management including time, cost and professional quality
  • How to present research results
