This unit of study aims to provide a historical and current overview of Radio in Australia, including Commercial, Government and Public stations and the ownership and control regulations currently in place.

The employment structure and roles of staff are examined in detail, as are technical operations and programming philosophies. Methods of audience surveying and analysis are studied and related to the radio station's programming and promotional activities.This unit will also explore the nature and detail of current broadcast legislation and regulations and the legal issues faced by owners and broadcasters relating to defamation and contempt of court. Methods of staff selection and management, including awards and union interests, will be examined. The impact of new technologies, including satellite services, cable, narrowcast and in-store radio will be examined, along with applications and improvements in computer systems and Digital Audio technology.
