Aims & Objectives:

Aims

·         To develop student’s understanding of the need for businesses to change in an entrepreneurial and innovative way in response to changing environments in order to maintain competitive advantage

·         To assist students in the design, development and implementation of appropriate ‘value adding’ change strategies at individual, group and organizational level.

Objectives

·         To appreciate the need to adapt in a rapidly changing, global environment

·         To assist students to develop a framework that successfully identifies and analyses relevant information in order to develop intervention strategies that bring about successful and sustainable change

·         To evaluate, monitor and modify change implementation strategies to maximize outcomes for the longer term

·         To present an oral presentation and written report that proposes a ‘value adding’ change strategy within a given organizational setting

 

Teaching Methods:

1 hour lecture and 2 hour tutorials

Assessment:

Individual situational analysis report 20 - 30%, Group verbal presentation 10%, individual written reports 20 - 30%, examination 40 - 50%

Generic Skills Outcomes:

·         To develop the capability to deliver ‘value adding’ organizational change in a professional and ethical way.

·         To identify the opportunities for responsible and effective innovative change through process redesign and a culture of commitment to continuous improvement.

·         To develop the ability to work both independently and collaboratively

·         To become sensitive to shifting needs and then to adapt and manage them in a constructive way

·         To respect and manage multiple points of view

·         To evaluate the economic, cultural, social and environmental impact of decisions

 

Content:

  • Building and selling a business case for strategic change to the key stakeholders in selected change settings

·         Planning, implementing, managing and monitoring a strategic change initiative

·         Preparing for the future using foresight and sustainable strategy principles
