On completion of the unit students should have developed: An appreciation for the dimensions of managing and leading change.Insights into the application of sound theories relating to the management of organisational change.An ability to select strategies and practices for managing and leading change.A capacity to identify and manage the communication dimensions of managing change.In-depth experience of analysing the effectiveness of organisational communication in managing change.Increased understanding of the effect of change on the individual, and of the management and leadership implications.Understanding of how change is managed in diverse organisations.New insights into their own capacity to deal with, manage and lead change. At the completion of this unit students should be able to: Define the dimensions of organisational change in particular situations.Identify the stakeholders with an interest in a particular organisational change.Select and apply appropriate theories to inform their management of organisational change.Lead and manage change in organisations.Design and implement a change management strategy.Assess the effectiveness of organisational change strategies.Critically review the work of others in the field of organisational change.

Organisational Communication Audit or Action Research Project 60%; Group Task 40%
The unit is workplace-focused, student-centred and experiential. It includes: Theories of organisation and communication, and concepts underlying organisational communication, including culture, climate, information flow and technology.Experiential exploration of organisational issues central to the workplace.An organisational communication audit in the workplace or action research project.Reflective discussion on change processes and organisational communication at the individual and organisational levels.
