Aims & Objectives:

This unit of study is designed to provide students with a broad understanding of the ways in which information and communications technologies (ICTs) are changing Australian society. In particular, it focuses on the way in which converged industries and technologies are reshaping the political and economic landscape, thereby impacting on the lives of all Australians. It examines who is driving these changes and who might benefit from them, using a range of techniques drawn from the broad field of political economy. New communications technologies and their applications, such as cable and pay television, interactive television, WebTV, and the Internet, are discussed in terms of their challenges to established systems.
