Aims & Objectives:

Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students should be able to:
  • Use the OSI model to understand network design and infrastructure
  • Address a network, subnet a network to given specifications
  • Build a simple network of hubs, , switches, PCs and routers
  • Troubleshoot typical problems in network designs
  • Implement a network with static and dynamic routes
  • Understand the operation of and differences between dynamic routing protocols

Teaching Methods:

Online self-study augmented by a weekly Lecture (24 hrs), Practical Classes (36hrs)



Assessment:

Assignment, Online Tests, Laboratory Examination, Written Examination

      • OSI Network Layers
      • Ethernet fundamentals, technologies and switching
      • TCP/IP and addressing
      • Subnets and subnetting (VLSM and CIDR)
      • Routing fundamentals
      • Static and dynamic routing
      • Configuring routers and routing devices
      • Routing protocols (RIP, RIPv2, EIGRP, OSPF)
      • Basic router troubleshooting
