Aims & Objectives:

This unit broadens understanding of communication through the investigation of enablers, drivers and blockers of networked communication in both local and global environment. The effects of  various communication tools and channels on social and organisational behaviour are reflected on as the participants develop understanding of cultural influences on the communication process.  In this era of networked communication the importance of managing inter- and intra-cultural diversity is recognised.  Both theoretical and practical approaches are taken in the study of this unit and participants will apply their own communication model design to a practical application.
 

Students completing this unit of study will be able to:

  • Understand and discuss communication process and networked channels
  • Use appropriate communication strategies and tools in both social and business environments
  • Demonstrate a broad understanding of the interaction of communication, culture and technology in the local and global networked environment
  • Design effective communication models
  • Apply design to multimedia project suitable for social or business environments

Teaching Methods:

Online delivery is supported by a unit outline with CDROM, a unit website with a variety of resources which may include lessons, learning objects (documents and presentations), virtual lectures, threaded discussions and interactive chat rooms. Face-to-face workshops may be conducted in a variety of configurations (weekly or 2 day blocks) subject to demand. International students will attend weekly workshops taking a work-related approach.

Reflection on networked communication channels 30%, Effective Communication Model Design 30%, Design application to Multimedia Presentation Project 40%
