Learning Outcomes
After successfully completing this unit, students should be able to:
  • Outline the threats to network security and their defences
  • Prepare a security policy and outline its implementation using a variety of security technologies
  • Carry out simple configuration tasks on a firewall 
  • Carry out simple configuration tasks on a VPN server and client 
  • Implement a simple Intrusion Detection System 
  • Encrypt simple messages using public key and secret key techniques 
  • Explain techniques used in dealing with Denial of Service Attacks 
  • Explain the operation of public key infrastructure 
  • Explain the security issues relating to wireless technologies
