Aims & Objectives:

This unit of study investigates narrative in the broadest sense. We will discuss narrative structures – both linear and non linear – across a variety of media in relation to aesthetic choices that serve storytelling. We will consider the important role that character plays in creating narratives, as well as consider how design elements including type, imagery, composition, juxtaposition, transitions and sound add complexity and depth to storytelling. We will look at narrative in a number of contexts and media forms such as ; short film, publications, graphic novels, 2D and 3D animations, games, branding and advertising.
