Aims & Objectives:

At the completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  • Develop and evaluate costing systems
  • Distinguish cost behaviours
  • Evaluate planning and control systems
  • Apply management accounting in decision making
  • Communicate accounting information to accountants and non-accountants
  • Work collaboratively on a group assignment

Teaching Methods:

Lecture (1 hour) Tutorial (2 hours)
Lectures will be used to introduce the topics, demonstrate concepts, and tutorials will be used to provide a forum for discussion and questions.

Assessment:

Test 20%; Tutorial work 10%; Assignment 20%; Exam 50%. Hurdle pass rate of 45% on exam.

There are several suitable texts available. A suitable new edition of a text will be chosen and recommended when the unit is about to be delivered.

Recommended Reading:

The extant theory in this area is vast. Students will be advised of appropriate recent relevant reading when the unit is offered. This would be updated each semester.
