Credit Points: 12.5 Credit Points
A unit of study in the Graduate Certificate in Learning & Teaching (Higher Education)
This unit aims to develop knowledge and experience of designing and delivering units that can be supported or enhanced by using educational technologies. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on an aspect of their teaching, explore opportunities for innovation and investigate pedagogy that supports implementation of technology-supported learning and teaching. After successfully completing this unit, participants should be able to: Identify appropriate media and communication technologies and approaches that align with aims, objectives, learning and teaching methods, underpinned by relevant theory Develop a rationale and planning process for the implementation of a media/technology innovation aligned with teaching aims and learning objectives Design and implement a media/technology-based learning and teaching resources innovation Evaluate the alignment of teaching methods and media within a delivery session taking into full account aims, objectives, learning and teaching methods
LTS502 has been designed to be experiential in nature, enabling learning to take place alongside current and evolving teaching practice and, at the same time, to engage participants through reflective practice. LTS502 is delivered using a blended learning approach. An online learning environment has been developed in Blackboard to increase flexibility and choice for participants in regard to independent study and self-directed learning. Participants will have the opportunity to build their knowledge and skills in applied teaching practice through: Reflective practice Peer and tutor feedback, support and mentoring Online and face-to-face tutorials and/or workshops Individual and group problem-based learning activities and discussions An extensive range of online learning material is provided for participants to further develop their personal philosophy of teaching and extend their practical teaching skills
Documented rationale and planning for media/technology-based learning and teaching resources innovation - 50% Documented implementation and evaluation of a media/technology teaching innovation - 50%
The unit activities and resources relate to the following topics: Curriculum alignment Learning and teaching methods and educational technologies Relating learning and teaching methods to media/technology practice Engaging with and exploring new technologies Effective choice of media Using communication media to facilitate learning Evaluation methods
