This is a prescribed unit of study in the Communication Major/s and Social Science Major/s. It may also be undertaken as a unit of study in any other Swinburne degree program, subject to the prerequisite and degree requirements.

Aims & Objectives:

On completion of this unit students will have increased competence in a range of skills such as:
• team work, written and oral communication skills
• presentation skills
• the ability to critically assess their own work and course material and
• to be able to think critically and analyse a variety of knowledge sources.

They will use these skills to augment their studies in all discipline areas they undertake at FHEL and in Open Universities Australia, and be able to apply them to the workplace. The unit provides students with an opportunity for interdisciplinary study, drawing on themes from psychology, sociology, philosophy, education and business

Teaching Methods:

LCL 100: Units will be taught in a variety of modes including face to face, online, distance and blended modes. Delivery of this unit may be through a mixture of lectures, tutorials, laboratories, seminars and online.

SSK 13: On-line lectures, chat and discussion threads (as required)

Assessment:

Essay 15 - 25%
On-Line Discussion 15 - 25%
Group Presentation 35 - 45%
Reflective Report 15 - 25%
