Related Course/s:

A core unit in the Master of Business Administration (CMBA640) and Master of Business Administration / Master of Strategic Foresight (CMBF680).

Aims & Objectives:

This unit is designed to provide students with skills and practice that are critical in leading innovative and entrepreneurial activities and ventures in established organisations. Its focus is the individual and collective leadership behaviours and practices that enable organisations to develop innovative teams and cultures, and successfully establish and sustain high growth entrepreneurial initiatives. It is intended that students are able to apply effective thinking and practice in a range of organisational, industry and cultural contexts.
 
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
  • Outline the leadership practices required for innovation and change in organisations.
  • Better manage the tension between leading innovative activities and established or entrenched elements of an organisation.
  • Diagnose and plan for the organisational practices needed to support innovative activity in established organisations.
  • Build more innovative teams.
  • Have insight into their own qualities and development needs as leaders of innovative teams in organisational settings.
  • Identify the issues involved in leading innovative teams and organisations.

Teaching Methods:

Students attend three (3) hours per week for contact activities per unit.

Assessment:

Individual assignment (20-30%)
Group leadership of class (Group) 15-25%
Individual Learning Contract (25-35%)
Assessment of learning presentation (Individual) 10-20%
