Aims & Objectives:

Upon successfully completing the unit, surdents will be able to: 
  • Understand the philosophical foundations of knowledge
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the principles of Knowledge Management (KM)
  • Explore the link between KM and organisational learning
  • Identify how HR might create and foster a knowledge creating environment and build organisational memory
  • Facilitate transfer of learning across levels (from and to individuals, groups, and organisations)
  • Recommend specific HR practices to leverage knowledge
  • Provide informed inputs on HR related aspects of KM technology

Teaching Methods:

Presentation of theoretical material and case studies.

Assessment:

Essay (20%); In-class case study (30%); Individual term paper (50%)

Generic Skills Outcomes:

Students will enhance their communication skills, analytical ability, and problem solving skills as they engage with the subject material and attempt to solve the cases in a KM context.

Content:

The content will include, but not be limited to, areas such as learning across individual, group, and organizational levels, knowledge transfer and boundary spanning, human capability, systems learning and adaptation, social and intellectual capital, power and politics, KM systems and technology, and cultural and strategic perspectives on KM.

Reading Materials:

A customized readings packet will be made available through the university’s bookshop.
