Related Course/s:

A unit of study in the Graduate Diploma of Social Science (Human Services - Counselling)) and Master of Social Science (Human Services - Counselling).

Aims & Objectives:

This unit of study provides a theoretical complement to the experiential work covered in Advanced Counselling. Students are introduced to a number of special issues related to working with clients from different population groups. The unit of study aims to prepare students to apply their counselling skills in a variety of settings and problems areas.

Teaching Methods:

Lectures and Seminars.

Assessment:

This is a graded unit of study

Written Assignment (40-60%)
Written Essay (40-60%)

Attendance to at least 10 classes (hurdle requirement)

• Considering victims of abuse and/or perpetrators
• Working with men
• Counselling gay men and lesbian women
• Cross-cultural counselling
• Counselling using the internet (E-Therapy)
