This unit of study is available as an elective to all students in either a single or double degree.

Aims & Objectives:

At the conclusion of this unit students will be able to:
  • identify entrepreneurial opportunities and analyse their feasibility in a team environment
  • analyse the commercial environment facing a new venture
  • analyse venture risks for their mitigation
  • determine human and other resources needed to establish a new venture
  • plan for the establishment of a new venture
  • prepare strategies to cope with venture risks

Teaching Methods:

Lecture (1 hour), Case Study Seminars (1 hour), Tutorials (1 hour)

Assessment:

Written case study analysis, Individual assignment, Particpation (65%), Team project – feasibility analysis (35%)

  • Generation and analysis of new business opportunities
  • Identification and external analysis of target markets
  • Development of business strategy & analysis of competitive position
  • Start-up planning including team formation and establishment of operations
  • Identifying channels to market for the new venture
