Aims & Objectives:

After successfully completing this unit, students should be able to:

• Describe the fundamental concept of high speed wide area networks;
• List the Internet networking protocols and describe routing concepts;
• Explain the technical details of emerging WANs;
• Identify the developments and future of the Internet network.
• Apply Java programming skills to networking concepts.

Content:

  • Technologies include: DQDB, FDDI, SDH/SONET.
  • Emphasis is placed on protocols: TCP/IP protocol suite, Routing in the Internet, RIP and OSPF, Internet multicasting, DNS, Firewall design, Internet security in today's environment
