Aims & Objectives:

At the conclusion of this unit students will be able to:
  • Identify, understand and apply the relevant legal principles in an international business environment
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the laws, (including relevant treaty law multilateral and domestic law), which impact on international contracts, payments, and dispute settlement
  • Be able to utilise theoretical and analytical skills necessary to identify, understand and apply key financial and legal principles in an international business environment
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of international finance and law concepts which are essential elements of successful international business operations

Teaching Methods:

Lecture (1 hours) and Tutorials (2 hour)

Lecture/seminars and case study presentations will be used to introduce the topics and resources, demonstrate concepts, and provide a forum for demonstration, discussion and questions.

Assessment:

Assignment (25-35 %); Test (20-30 %); Examination (35-45%)

  • The nature, role and functions of foreign exchange markets
  • Factors that influence movements in exchange rates and their impact on multinational business
  • International money and capital markets and the role of international banks
  • Legal principles in the international business environment
  • Domestic, bilateral and multilateral regulatory frameworks for international contracts, payments, and dispute settlement
