Aims & Objectives:

At the completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  • Write each kanji with the correct stroke order
  • Recognise and write 84 new kanji
  • Communicate in Japanese by creating sentences using knowledge from earlier units
  • Adapt to new cultural settings and conduct themselves with cultural sensitivity
  • Make a 5 minutes speech in Japanese and answer questions

Teaching Methods:

Lecture (2 hours), Tutorial (1 hour), Oral and Aural exercise (2 hours), Computer laboratory (1 hour)

Assessment:

Mid-semester written test (30%), Final written examination (40%), Two Class presentations (5% each) class performance (10%), Weekly quiz (10%)

Content:

The unit includes 5 main components: grammar, reading, writing, aural comprehension and oral expression. Emphasis is placed on the development of oral skills for a range of everyday situations, including business situations.
