Aims & Objectives:

This unit facilitates an understanding of the elements of integrated safety management systems. These systems have been recently mandated by the International Civil Aviation Organisation as essential aspects in the management of safety and risk within commercial aviation.

At the successful completion of this unit students should be able to:
  • Explain and discuss the concept of an integrated safety management system (ISMS) and its application in the modern aviation industry
  • Describe the elements of an ISMS
  • Explain ways in which an ISMS is evaluated and maintained 
  • Participate in the implementation and ongoing management of ISMS
  • Practise effectively in a team
