A unit of study in the Master of Information Technology, Master of Information Technology (Professional Computing) and Master of Technology (Information Technology).
In particular the aims of this unit are to provide students with an appreciation of: The major issues facing IS managers in the mangement of organisationsinformation systemsThe importance of aligning information systems operations and strategy to business operations and strategy and the techniques and tools for analysing and improving the degree of alignment between business and the information systems functionThe role of architecture as an analysis and design framework for organisational information systermsTo think critically about existing architecture frameworks and the role and activities associated with architecture and encourage students to communicate effectively about the different architecure frameweorks, their concepts, assumptions and objectivesThe approaches to the organisational structure and governance of the information systems function and tools that can be used to support managers improve their control and risk management over the information systems functionThe contribution of proven business information systems management techniques and tools to organisational information systems problem solving Learning OutcomesThe student who successfully completes this unit of study will be able to: Understand the challenges associated with aligning the information systems function with business operations and strategyIdentify the characteristics and elements underpinning business and IS/IT strategies Apply analytical tools and techniques to align business and informnation systems operations and strategiesUnderstand the importance of architecture as a means of mediating between business operations and strategy and information systems operations and strategyThink critically about key architeure frameworks, their concepts, assumptions, objectives, strengths and weaknessesApply sound management techniques and concepts to improve the quality and productivity oforganisational inforation systemsThe concepts and techniques associated with the planning and delivery of information systems services, business process re-engineering, investment planning and value realisation analysisDemonstrate appropriate communications skills in group work and written and oral presentations.
