Aims & Objectives:

  • Communicate in an effective manner in a business context
  • Work with teams to achieve organisational and personal goals
  • Understand the various roles that people play in organisations within a business context
  • Self evaluate and improve their personal performance and be confident of their ability to contribute to an organisation
  • Understand contemporary business practice skills within a discipline specific context
  • Research and evaluate a business context and suggest practical solutions to contemporary business problems

  • Ascertain personal levels of existing knowledge and devise professional self development goals

Teaching Methods:

This unit is project-based, and activities and resources are designed to support the project process. Students are expected to work independently to gather materials and develop skills that help them to fulfill the requirements of the project brief. Academic staff provide guidance to teams and individuals aimed at developing project management and self-directed learning skills

Assessment:

Assessment will be negotiated with each student based on their learning needs. This will include an assessment of each student’s ability to successfully complete a project in response to a brief, as described by the learning objectives of the unit, drawing on these negotiations. Learning contracts will be prepared at the beginning of the semester or term.

  • Research reports and/or presentations

  • Sponsor reports
  • Journals and diaries
  • Minutes of meetings
  • Portfolio of work undertaken
  • Oral questioning
  • Written case studies
