Students who complete this unit of study should be able to • Demonstrate improved awareness of a range of issues associated with professional practice in the area of IT project management • Identify appropriate courses of action when confronted with organisational issues related to IT project management • Recognise the need for further develop professional and personal skills based on their experiences in this industry placement • Apply their practical skills and theoretical knowledge into an IT industry context • Develop their understanding of business processes and organisational structures • Develop professional contacts and networks within the IT industry
This unit is delivered primarily through a supervised internship in industry, with reflection and learning of that experience. Class meetings to discuss progress, issues and further development will be held.

Within this context it is the intent of unit HIT8432 IT Project Managemment Internship Project, that students develop the following key generic skills: • teamwork skills • analysis skills • problem solving skills • communications skills • ability to tackle unfamiliar problems • ability to work independently
The internship project will generally involve students working on a specific project in a workplace for two days per week for the semester. Projects will be carried out under the supervision of an industry professional with additional supervision provided by an academic staff member. Project activities may take various forms involving a range of tasks and activities associated with IT project management. All internships are undertaken under the close supervision of a staff member who meets throughout the semester with the students to discuss and ensure progress. Internship projects are unpaid and form part of an academic program of study with academic credit.
Readings will be prescribed as required by the specific organisational context and requirements of the project.
