A unit of study in the Bachelor of Aviation, Bachelor of Aviation (Management), Bachelor of Aviation/Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Aviation (Management)/Bachelor of Commerce and Associate Degree of Aviation
The aim of this unit is to facilitate an understanding of some of the essential skills necessary in the modern workplace. After successfully completing this unit students should be able to: 1. Demonstrate an understanding of essential written, oral and presentation skills, communication and teamwork. 2. Explain and discuss the complexities of human behaviour and communication in organisations, 3. Identify principles of change management, conflict resolution and cultural diversity. 4. Explain and discuss the application of information technology and commonly used office software suites in the workplace. 5. Describe some introductory aviation human factors concepts and illustrate their importance in the aviation environment.
Classroom based (4 contact hours per week)

This unit addresses the following key generic skills: teamwork skills, analysis skills, problem solving skills, communications skills, ability to tackle unfamiliar problems, and ability to work independently.
Structure and Organisation Operation: Types of meetings, chairing meetings, effective conduct of meetings, organisational roles and responsibilities, multi-cultural environments. Interpersonal Skills: Types of behaviour, teamwork and group strategies, peer learning (learning communities), types of presentation, conflict resolution, oral and written reporting, study skills, role playing, employment interview techniques. Organisational Skills: Filing and correspondence management, product control, Program Evaluation Review Technique (PERT), referencing documents. Information Technology: Role of information technology and the use of computers, word processing, the internet as a resource, use of Microsoft PowerPoint and Access. Aviation Human Factors: Introductory overview of human factors, workload management, , effects of stress and stress management, memory, safety management concepts, safety culture.
