It uses concepts drawn from organisation theory, organisational behaviour, and public and not-for-profit management literatures to explore the challenges of managing housing agencies and the individuals who comprise them. Key management tools and techniques are explored, including strategic and operational planning, resource management, service quality and relationship management. Performance management issues are also explored. Learning Objectives: After successfully completing this unit, students should be able to: 1. Demonstrate an ability to use conceptual tools for problem-solving around housing management issues 2. Describe the basic elements of how organisations work and the key drivers of changes 3. Demonstrate an ability to engage in meaningful analysis and discussion of contemporary change management 4. Demonstrate an ability to identify and describe key performance measurement practices in their organisations 5. Given a problem, demonstrate an ability to collectively analyse it and evolve a consensus decision
The unit will be taught using a distance education approach, with modules available to students via the Blackboard system. Learning materials and resources are included in each of the modules. Regular face-to-face tutorials and learning opportunities are provided. Students also communicate regularly with tutors by email, Blackboard communication and by telephone.
