At the completion of this unit, students will be able to: Understand the importance of the accurate and timely recording of financial transactionsApply the rules of double entry accounting to financial transactions in the ledgers (general and subsidiary) and journals (general and special)Describe internal control proceduresRecord a set of transactions using double entry accounting softwareApply generally accepted accounting concepts to a range of transactions for a small businessDesign an appropriate information system for a small retail or service business
Lecture (2 hours), Tutorials (1 hour)
Test 20%-30%; computer software assignment 20%-30%; participation 5%-10%; Exam 50%. Hurdle pass rate of 50% on exam.

The extant theory in this area is vast. Students will be advised of appropriate recent relevant reading when the unit is offered. This would be updated each semester.
