A unit of study in the Bachelor of Design (Industrial Design) (Honours) , Bachelor of Design (Interior Design) (Honours) and .
The studio provides grounding in digital technology for the development and visualisation of 2D and 3D design, that is to say 2D representations and 3D models. It investigates methods for generating digital content and their application during the design process and in final presentations, especially the principles and techniques for creating high quality graphics and renderings.
Teaching is conducted in a student-centred studio, on a work-in-progress basis through lectures, discussions, demonstrations and hands-on exercises.
100% project work.
The unit provides advanced knowledge of a range of software applications, including the 2D graphic applications Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, and the 3D software applications Solidworks and 3D Studio Max. Classes consider issues of PC/Mac compatibility, the creation of motion video and basic animation, and the relationship between digital data and model-making processes. Exercises based on appropriate design projects are undertaken to provide experience in the application of software knowledge and principles of visualisation.
Due to the constantly changing nature of design technologies and applications, up-to-date software references are distributed in the first week of class.
