A unit of study in the Bachelor of Commerce and the Bachelor of Business Administration suite of programs.

Aims & Objectives:

At the completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  • Understand the importance of contract law in a business environment
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the laws, (both statutory and common law), which impact on contracts
  • Appreciate and appropriately deal with contractual issues in their everyday lives
  • Recognise the importance of a contract as a means of allocating risk
  • Recognise diverse viewpoints and synthesise arguments from multiple points of view

Teaching Methods:

Lecture (2 hours), Tutorial (1 hour)
 
Lectures are designed to inform and increase the legal knowledge of students. Delivery and learning revolves around the use of real world case studies, supported by references to a multitude of business law cases.
 
Tutorials provide students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge to practical (real world) contract law problems. Discussion in tutorials is designed to develop problem-solving skills. Students are assisted to form logical and structured arguments, to look for and have respect for multiple points of view, and to reach a balanced and supportable conclusion.
