Aims & Objectives:

  • To impart to the student an overview of the concepts, theories and research findings in the field of change management and business transformation.
    To demonstrate to the student how change management is applied in practice in relation to individuals, groups and the overall organization.
  • To adopt an integrative, multi-disciplinary approach to the teaching of change management.
  • To focus on the case study approach in order to bring alive the context and reality of change within business organizations and as a vehicle for the application of theory.
At the completion of this unit students should be able to:
  • Appreciate how change management has been applied in practice
  • Benefit from enhanced conceptual skills relating to change management effectiveness
  • Understand the research literature on change management

Teaching Methods:

Presentation of theoretical material from a number of sources, such as textbooks and articles, case studies, class discussion, and reflection

Assessment:

Personal Analysis (30%); In-Class Written Test (20%); Work-Related Assignment (50%)

Processes of business transformation and organizational change; dominant logic and paradigms; change models; characteristics of innovative organisations; forces for change; resistance to change; coping with change; contingency approaches to change; recognizing, diagnosing, planning, implementing and evaluating change; cultural change management; and organizational development
