An elective unit of study in the Master of Commerce (International Business) and Graduate Diploma of Commerce (International Business).
At the completion of this unit of study students should: Be informed and knowledgeable in the areaHave an appreciation of areas of uncertainty within a body of knowledgeDisplay attitudes appropriate to the professional areaUnderstand the relationship between theory and practiceHave the ability to operate locally, nationally and internationallyBe culturally sensitive and have respect for multiple points of view
Preparatory lectures and satisfactory participation in briefings, research and presentations during the tour.
Students will undergo three forms of assessment. Pre-departure research and preparation worth 30%.Students will be required to complete an on-tour test worth 20% of the overall assessmentStudents will be required to complete a 5,000 word project on a theme relevant to Asia and the Study Tour. Along with the project these students will be required to make a class environment presentation of their project in PowerPoint format on their return to Australia. The presentation will incorporate a question and answer section. The written project will have a value of 30% while the class presentation will equal 20%. The two together will have a value of 50% of the overall assessment.

Prior to the tour, there are preparatory tutorials providing the opportunity for students to research key areas of interest so they can achieve maximum benefit from the tour programStudents are required to prepare carefully for the meetings and briefings so they can actively participate in each appointmentThere are briefings from a range of business associations, chambers and major corporations involved in Australian business within the region for students to attendThere are visits to Austrade and the Australian embassies (or their equivalents) in Tokyo, Beijing and Shanghai
There are several suitable texts available. A suitable new edition of a text will be chosen and recommended when the unit is about to be delivered.
Students will be advised of appropriate relevant reading when the unit is offered.
