Aims & Objectives:

Participants become knowledgeable about the technical and aesthetic processes inherent in motion graphics, animation, character development and narrative for digital media. They acquire expertise in the elements and principles of animation and develop the critical and creative reasoning required when developing diverse multimedia design content.

Teaching Methods:

Projects are conducted in a studio environment, on location, through lectures, individual student consultations, class discussions, demonstrations and critiques.

Content:

Participants create an animation using Macromedia Flash and experiment with linear, non-linear and interactive narrative. In the process, participants explore skills required to visualise ideas through storyboards and or animatics. The importance of sound, script and editing is explored, as is the nature of contemporary cinema in the digital age, including its relationship to screen, experimental animation and post-effects. Projects may either investigate character development or animation in a narrative context.
