Aims & Objectives:

To develop the student’s understanding of flight rules and procedures such that they meet Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) Air Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) standards. To provide the student with an extensive understanding of the purpose, operation and limitations of navigation systems and methods at ATPL level such that the student can to take into account the dynamic atmosphere for flight operations at ATPL standard. To ensure that the student is aware of the legal and procedural factors that impact on flying operations at the ATPL level.

After successfully completing this unit you will be able to:
1. Describe the legal and procedural factors that impact on the conduct flying operations at the ATPL level.
2. Apply the navigation factors that impact on flying operations such that you can accurately plan and monitoring of navigation activities at the ATPL level.
3. Explain the environmental factors that impact on flying operations at the ATPL level.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of the unit material sufficient to pass the CASA Air Transport Pilot Licence theory examinations for Flight Rules and Air law, Navigation, and Meteorology.

Classroom

Assessment:

  • Examination 60%. 
  • Continuous assessment tests covering the following (40% overall)
    o Flight Rules and Air Law
    o Navigation
    o Meteorology

CASA ATPL Examinations may be undertaken by the student in addition to the above examinations. Where the student’s aggregate mark for the CASA examinations exceeds that of the continuous assessment component, the CASA mark will be used for that component.

Content:

This unit of study provides the student with an understanding of the following areas of aviation knowledge to the level required for the award of an ATPL by CASA.
  • Air law
  • Navigation
  • Meteorology

The unit content follows the requirements as specified in the CASA approved Air Transport Licence Syllabus (aeroplanes and helicopters) as amended.
