Aims & Objectives:

At the completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  • Develop an appreciation of the variety of accounting theories
  • Appraise the relevance of the conceptual framework to the accounting standards
  • Investigate implementation issues of a number of accounting standards
  • Assess the impact of changing enterprise governance and social and environmental issues on accounting
  • Interpret the conceptual framework requirements and apply them to accounting issues
  • Provide theory based advice on a range of accounting judgements

Teaching Methods:

Lecture (1 hour), Tutorials (2 hours)

Assessment:

Examination (60%), Test (20%), Assignment (20%)

  • Several specific standards will be used to highlight the application of theory
