Aims & Objectives:

After successfully completing this unit, the student should be able to:
  • Understand the importance of the accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
  • Apply the rules of double entry accounting to financial transactions in the ledgers (general and subsidiary) and journals (general and special).
  • Describe internal control procedures.
  • Record a set of transactions manually and using double entry accounting software.
  • Apply generally accepted accounting concepts to a range of transactions for a small business.
  • Design an appropriate information system for a small retail or service business.

Teaching Methods:

A range of teaching methods will be used, including seminars, lectures, online tutorials and class-based tutorials.

Assessment:

Mid-semester Test (10%)
Practice Set Assignment (20%)
Final Exam (70%)
