This course applies to students who commenced prior to October 2011. New commencing students should refer to Swinburne Foundation Studies (Science/Engineering).


This course is designed to get you ready for university in Australia. It can equip you for further studies in a range of science and engineering-related areas such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, aviation, photonics, biotechnology or telecommunication and internet technologies.
 
You will develop fundamental communication, information technology (IT) and finite mathematics skills. You will also undertake units in physics, chemistry and science/engineering mathematics.


On successful completion of all units of study in Foundation Studies (Science / Engineering), you can progress into the Diploma of Engineering (UniLink). This is designed to prepare you for second-year entry to a related bachelor degree in engineering or ICT.

If you achieve a credit average (65 or above) and want to start your degree sooner, you may want to apply for direct entry to one of the following bachelor degrees:

Information Technology
Innovation and Change

Science / Engineering stream units:
Chemistry
Physics
Science/Engineering Mathematics A & B


Successful completion of a related bachelor degree after Foundation Studies (Science/Engineering) can open up a huge range of career opportunities.
 
These include: engineering (please refer to relevant Bachelor of Engineering degree), biotechnology, management, medicine, mining, network administration, telecommunications and transport.

Swinburne College English for Academic Purposes Advanced level certificate at the Pathways level (EAP 5: Pathways -60%) OR, obtaining a minimum IELTS overall band of 5.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 5.0; OR, a TOEFL (Paper-based) minimum score of 527 (with a Test of Written English (TWE) score of 4.5); OR, a TOEFL (Computer-based) minimum score of 196 (with Written Writing score of 4.5); OR, a TOEFL (Internet-based) minimum score of 71 with no band less than 18.
