A098

Campus Availability Study Mode Study Level Duration
Hawthorn Full-time, Part-time (day), Part-time (evening) Postgraduate Two and a half years full-time. Summer and Winter semesters may allow the course to be completed in two years.

The Master of Information Systems Management/Master of Business Administration (MISM/MBA) double degree provides advanced skills and knowledge across the complex areas of both business and information systems. This unique program enables students to achieve the aims and objectives of both the current Swinburne MISM and MBA courses in the most time/cost-efficient and effective way.

The information systems component is concerned with the application of information technology to support organisations in the conduct of their business. It examines both the organisational issues and the techniques and technology required for the analysis, design and implementation of business solutions, with an emphasis on electronic commerce.

The business administration component not only offers the opportunity to acquire contemporary management knowledge and skills, it also provides students with the ability to apply that knowledge in an innovative, creative and entrepreneurial way.

The Master of Information Systems Management/Master of Business Administration comprises 19 units of study (237.5 credit points), to be completed over two and a half years full-time. Students wishing to accelerate their course may be able to reduce this to two years by taking units of study (when available) during the Summer and Winter semesters.

Students who have a degree with information systems units of study may be eligible for exemptions from the two elective units in the first year of the program and will undertake 212.5 credit points of studies.

Students who have a degree or graduate diploma in information systems may be eligible for up to 50 credit points of exemptions and will undertake at least 187.5 credit points of studies.

Electives are usually chosen from graduate diploma and master level units of study offered by the Faculty of Information and Communication Technologies. However, students need to ensure that the electives they choose are appropriate for the stage in question and so the advice of the program manager must be sought.

The program is available in both full-time and part-time* (5.30pm to 9.30pm) modes. Part-time mode includes the possibility of studying one unit of study at a time. Evening classes are available in most units of study and entry is possible in both Semester 1 (February) and Semester 2 (July).

Please note: some units of study are subject to quotas and minimum enrolment requirements. Not all units of study are available every semester, and changes in course structure occur from time to time.

* International student visa holders are required to study full-time.
