I099

Campus Availability Study Mode Study Level Duration
Hawthorn Full-time, Part-time (day), Part-time (evening) Postgraduate Two and a half years full-time or the equivalent part-time.

The Master of Information Systems Management (MISM) focuses on strategic business and information systems issues providing graduates with the knowledge and managerial skills required to ensure that information systems can be used effectively in support of business objectives and can obviously deliver value to relevant organisational stakeholders. The MISM is largely a non-technical program that has been designed to support those whose ambition is to assume senior information systems management roles in organisations, and thus aims to equip students with a deep understanding of the relationship between business imperatives and drivers, the role and contribution of information systems in supporting organisational problem solving, and the implications of this relationship for making sound decisions about investments in information systems.

The Master of Professional Accounting develops the analytical and problem-solving skills necessary when dealing with accounting and finance issues within planning and decision making. Knowledge of accounting and finance helps individuals and business organisations understand how to use financial and other resources to the best advantage.

This unique program enables students to achieve the aims and objectives of both the current Master of Information Systems Management and Master of Professional Accounting programs in the most time/cost efficient and effective way. Graduates would be expected to possess sophisticated knowledge and skills with respect to the effective utilisation and management of information systems in organisations, while also being skilled and knowledgeable in accounting theory and principles and financial management.

Recommended Study Sequence

IT elective

Note: students who enter with an IT degree will be required to undertake four units in each of Semesters 2 and 4. Students without an IT or IS degree will be required to undertake a further summer semester or to undertake a fifth semester in normal time.

* These units of study would be sufficient for the CPA Australia requirements for admission as an associate member, provided that at least two further master units of study from another discipline are undertaken for those with an undergraduate degree and six further units of study for those without an undergraduate degree. These requirements are satisfied by completion of the MISM component of the double degree. Graduates who subsequently wish to complete the CPA program will be required to take Auditing and Taxation as electives in the CPA program.
