This unique program enables students to achieve the aims and objectives of both the current Swinburne MISM and MBA courses in the most time/cost-efficient and effective way.

The information systems component is concerned with the application of information technology to support organisations in the conduct of their business. It examines both the organisational issues and the techniques and technology required for the analysis, design and implementation of business solutions, with an emphasis on electronic commerce.

The business administration component not only offers the opportunity to acquire contemporary management knowledge and skills, it also provides students with the ability to apply that knowledge in an innovative, creative and entrepreneurial way.
 
(Students holding an international student visa are required to study full-time and on campus.)

The Master of Information Systems Management/Master of Business Administration comprises 18 units of study (225 credit points) to be completed over two and a half years full-time or equivalent part-time; this is comprised of 8 core IS units, 6 core Business units, 1 IS option unit, 1 MBA HR option unit, 1 MBA management option unit and 1 MBA elective. Students wishing to accelerate their course may be able to reduce this to two years by taking units of study (when available) during the Summer and Winter semesters.
 
Students who have a degree with information systems units of study may be eligible for exemptions from the two elective units in the first year of the program and will undertake 200 credit points of studies.  

Students who have a degree or graduate diploma in information systems may be eligible for up to 50 credit points of exemptions and will undertake at least 175 credit points of studies.
 
Electives are usually chosen from graduate diploma and master level units of study offered by the Faculty of Information and Communication Technologies. However, students need to ensure that the electives they choose are appropriate for the stage in question and so the advice of the program manager must be sought.
 
The program is available in both full-time and part-time* (5.30pm to 9.30pm) modes. Part-time mode includes the possibility of studying one unit of study at a time. Evening classes are available in most units of study and entry is possible in both Semester 1 and Semester 2.
 
Please note: some units of study are subject to quotas and minimum enrolment requirements. Not all units of study are available every semester, and changes in course structure occur from time to time.

*International student visa holders are required to study full-time.

The program provides a distinctive mix of skills for managing IS in supporting core business decisions. Graduates will be qualified for senior IS roles including systems analyst, business development manager, project manager, chief information officer and IT director.

A recognised bachelor degree and at least three years relevant business experience preferred. Students applying for the MISM/MBA double degree must meet the admission criteria for each constituent degree.
 
Prospective students who do not hold an appropriate qualification but who have significant relevant work experience (normally five years or more) and evidence of academic capability may initially apply for the Graduate Certificate of Information Systems Management. Their progression to enrolment into the MISM/MBA will require satisfactory completion of the first four units of study (semester 1) of the double degree. 

Master of Information Systems Management
Students who have an IS degree or Graduate Diploma in Information Systems may be eligible to commence the program with up to four exemptions. Students who have a degree in another IT-related discipline may receive one or two exemptions.

Master of Business Administration
The admission requirement for the MBA program is an appropriate undergraduate qualification at a credit level (GPA 2.5, GMAT 600+ or equivalent) from a recognised tertiary institution.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.
