This course will be replaced by Master of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CMEI640M) from 2012.

The Master of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MEI) focuses on the specific needs of entrepreneurs and innovators who want to successfully commercialise their innovation. It is tailored for those who want to bring visionary attitudes and possibilities to existing business ventures or non-business enterprises. It encourages students to work on real-life projects of direct relevance and interest.

Learning goals and objectives are based around assessing new ventures and opportunities, planning and managing rapid growth, integrating interdisciplinary approaches and applying innovating solutions. This course is delivered in small, highly-interactive classes by highly experiences 'pracademics' - academics who are also practitioners in the field. Students develop skills in entrepreneurship and innovation, and the practice of innovation leadership.

The first eight units of study of the Master of Entrepreneurship and Innovation program are those outlined for the Graduate Certificate of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CMEI440) and the Graduate Diploma of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CMEI540). The final four units comprise the Master.

At the completion of the Master Program, it is expected that students will have:
  • The skills and capabilities to assess new ventures and opportunities
  • An ability to emphasise the management of change and new opportunities rather than administration of established practices
  • Developed a concentration on the planning and control of rapid business growth
  • Devoted attention to integrating knowledge through interdisciplinary approaches, rather than separating knowledge into functional specialties
  • Committed to the notion of 'theory for practice’s sake' - applying leading-edge theory to seek practical solutions to complex real-world problems
  • Developed skills in entrepreneurship and innovation and the practice of innovation leadership
  • Developed the ability to apply innovative solutions

Full-time students undertake four units of study per semester, part-time students undertake two units of study per semester.* Each unit of study is either taught in the traditional mode of one (three-hour) night class per week over a 12-week semester or in 'block mode' (usually six days within a 12-week semester). Students are expected to spend a minimum of the equivalent class contact hours per week in private study and/or team project work.

*Students holding international student visa are required to study full-time.

The Master of Entrepreneurship and Innovation is made up of three stages. Stage 1 comprises the Graduate Certificate, and Stage 2 comprises the Graduate Diploma.
