Course Description:

This program aims to provide students from a wide range of disciplines and business experiences with concepts, frameworks, research and analytical skills to enable them to operate confidently and effectively in a global environment, characterised by constant environmental change and requiring flexible and innovative responses. In the design and development of this program we canvassed industry perspectives on program design and its relevance to contemporary organisational challenges. A common theme linking units in the degree is that of business sustainability in a globalised environment. The degree consists of units from business and other disciplines. These units are grouped into four key areas supporting sustainable commercial and business development: Commercial accountability in a global environmentEconomic drivers and consequences in a global knowledge economyManaging people in constant change environments with a sensitivity to social and psychological implications of change and through innovative organisational design, systems and learning culturesIntegrative approaches for leveraging from information and communication technologies (ICTs)
Aims & Objectives:
A graduate from this program at master level should have built on their understanding of social, political, economic and environmental complexity in global commerce and its impact on organisational practice, and be able to: Demonstrate an understanding of institutional and organisational trends concerning adaptive strategy, corporate social responsibility and public and private sector responsibility for developing sustainable commercial practices and infrastructure in a rapidly changing global environmentAppreciate, communicate and practice effective decision-making processes in complex environments (including in areas such as business development, strategic alliances and in developing appropriate organisational culture)Critique processes for organisational innovation in different contextsRecognise and manage the tensions between flexibility and accountabilityDemonstrate an understanding of the social and psychological implications of managing people in new and innovative structures and environmentsDemonstrate advanced business research skills to plan, research, design, and implement a workplace project requiring broad managerial insights and actions with sensitivity to organisational strategy and cultureComplete organisational projects requiring advanced research, analysis, evaluation and decision making, such as response to tender requests, new business development initiatives, change management projects, or other business sustainability related initiativesDemonstrate collaborative behaviours to generate creative solutions to organisational, community, and business sustainability related issuesProvide evidence of useful outcomes based on multidisciplinary approaches
Course Structure:
The Master of Commerce consists of 150 credit points, made up of 12 units of study (each 12.5 credit points), and must include LMC601 and LMC701 plus at least three additional Stage 7 units plus any other units drawn from any stage. Students wishing to do the business research unit MTB830 will require approval from the program coordinator. Students not wishing to undertake the full master program may exit with either the Graduate Certificate of Commerce (L5201), by completing four units of study, or with the Graduate Diploma of Commerce (L6201), by completing eight units of study.

Entry Requirements:
Entry to the Master of Commerce will be available to applicants who have completed the Graduate Diploma in Commerce or approved equivalent.
Credit Transfer:
Applicants with prior tertiary studies that satisfy part of the academic requirements of this program may be granted ‘credit’ and/or entry into the program with ‘advanced standing’. University policies apply and applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis. Recognition of Prior Learning:
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.
