The Master of Commerce (International Business) is part of the unique Global Leadership Program offering students the opportunity to gain two professionally recognised master qualifications in two years of full-time study from two high-ranking institutions; one from Swinburne University of Technology and the other from Northeastern University, Boston, US.

The program is based in Melbourne and offered through the Faculty of Business and Enterprise, with the Northeastern component taught by Northeastern academics. Students also have the option of applying to Northeastern to take part of their program on-campus in Boston (they must also apply for US student visa).

This Master of Commerce (International Business) Global Leadership Program offers students the opportunity to gain specialist knowledge in international business. There are a number of developments that international business operators must be equipped to face. Globalisation; e-business practices; downsizing/rationalisation; entrepreneurship and the new economy; privatisation; and diversity in the marketplace present themselves as the significant trends that converge on management today.

To succeed in the international business environment you need to be up-to-date and capable of delivering results with these trends in mind. This program provides the means to recognise and take advantage of the opportunities and deal with the challenges inherent in international business environments.

The traditional concept that leadership skill resides solely with a small handful of top executives has given way to contemporary collaborative models where influence and decision-making authority is distributed throughout an organisation. Today's workforce continues to diversify, and the tasks to be accomplished become more complex. The Global Leadership Program is designed to assist today's leaders and prepare emerging leaders in meeting these challenges.

The units taught in this program incorporate an action-learning approach that is intended to leverage the interdisciplinary backgrounds of participants and to help build leadership competencies.

The structure of this program enables students to complete a two (2) year program of study and gain two master degrees on graduation.

Students complete eight (8) units of study from the Swinburne Master of Commerce (International Business) program and eight (8) units of study from the Northeastern Master of Science in Leadership via the Leadership Stream.

Upon successful completion of all sixteen (16) units of units of study (200 credit points), subject to pre-requisite requirements, students will be awarded:
  • Master of Commerce (International Business) from Swinburne University of Technology
  • Master of Science in Leadership from Northeastern University
To be eligible for the award of both the Swinburne and Northeastern degrees, students will need to meet the academic requirements outlined by both institutions. Academic and graduation requirements can be found at the Centre for Global Programs website.
