Course Description:
This program addresses the needs of graduates from a range of disciplines who are seeking to increase their professional value through acquiring both an understanding of global, national and local pressures on business and a capability to respond professionally and effectively to those pressures. It provides students with concepts, frameworks, analytical, problem solving and research skills to enable them to operate confidently and effectively in a global environment characterised by constant change and requiring flexible and innovative responses at a professional level. Students apply unit content to develop dynamic and strategic responses to complex internal and external challenges facing organisations from the perspective of strategic decision making, strategic finance, contemporary marketing challenges and managing complex alliances across the public and private sector.Differences between the Master of Business Management (MBM) and the Master of Business Administration (MBA)Master of Business Management (MBM)- Duration: 1.5 years full time (equivalent part time)- Campus: Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate units delivered on the Prahran campus. Depending on the graduate certificate selected units may be delivered on the Hawthorn or Prahran campuses or online. - Entry requirements: Advanced Diploma or Undergraduate degree with a minimum of 12 months relevant work experience. If the applicant does not possess an appropriate qualification they may be accepted with a minimum of 4 years relevant work experience. Master of Business Administration (MBA)- Duration: 2 years full time (or equivalent part time) with fast track options available- Campus: Hawthorn- Entry requirements: Have obtained an appropriate undergraduate qualification at a credit level with a minimum of 3 years full time work experience. If the applicant does not possess an undergraduate degree but has a minimum of 5 years work experience and evidence of academic capability the applicant may be admitted initially to the graduate certificate.
Aims & Objectives:
The study of these units will help students attain the following learning outcomes: Cross-disciplinary knowledge of business management: Understand the disciplinary content of Finance, Strategy, Business Analysis and Risk, Corporate Governance , Marketing, Leadership, Culture Building and People Management, Public Relations and Operations and Supply Chain ManagementDemonstrate an ability to apply these disciplines in a cross-disciplinary approach to holistic and problem-oriented business issues in assessment tasks. Analytical and reflective thinking: Demonstrate the ability to develop and apply theoretical, practical and specialist disciplinary content from the Graduate Certificate as appropriate into broader managerial analytical tasks at the Graduate Diploma and Master levelDemonstrate the ability to identify, critique and synthesise complex information and apply it to problem-solving and decision-making exercises as an individual and as a team memberDemonstrate an ability to apply business research methods to identify and address managerial dilemmas through multidisciplinary approaches to business and management problemsContribute to multi-disciplinary perspectives in group work through demonstrating an ability to leverage from diverse skills and experiences of others. Communication skills: Identify and demonstrate communication skills at an individual and group level including written, verbal and broader discursive skills utilising electronic information and communication technologies.Understand effective stakeholder management skills in business management and model these in assignment tasks, generating learning relevant to broader organisational challenges. Teamwork skills: Understand and reflect on the impact of self (from the perspective of personality and learning style) on teamwork processes and outcomes.Demonstrate ability to work with diverse groups from different cultures, disciplines and experience bases.Identify gaps in skills and attributes held, and incorporate this knowledge into personal development strategies Contribute to sustainable practices in the business and broader community: Develop an appreciation of business and stakeholder management challenges and skills associated with the current complex business environment from a commercial, environmental, and people and culture sustainability perspective.Manage paradox and tensions in applying course content to dynamic business issues in fast changing and uncertain environments.
Course Structure:
The Master of Business Management consists of 150 credit points made up of twelve units (each 12.5 credit points). The structure of the Master of Business Management includes the nested tagged and untagged Graduate Certificates (four units) and Graduate Diploma (four units) below. Students must complete one of the Graduate Certificates listed below as the first stage. Graduate Certificates (4 units) Graduate Certificate of Business Management*, orGraduate Certificate of Business Management (Public Relations), orGraduate Certificate of Business Management (Retail Management), orGraduate Certificate of Business Management (Project Management)*, orGraduate Certificate of Business Management (Executive Administration)*, orGraduate Certificate of Business Management (Supply Chain Management)* *Only these programs are available to international students. Graduate Diploma (4 Units) MBM600 Business analysis and risk Plus any three of: MBM601 Leadership, culture and complexityMBM602 Operations and supply chain managementMBM603 Public Relations: Reputation to riskMBM700 Strategic financeMBM702 Contemporary applied marketing Students who complete one or more level 7 units within their Graduate Diploma who wish to proceed to the Master in Business Management, must complete any remaining level 6 units from the Graduate Diploma. Master (4 Units) MBM700 Strategic financeMBM701 Strategy and decision makingMBM702 Contemporary applied marketingMBM703 Business issues in public/private projects Students must complete the Graduate Certificate and the Graduate Diploma before completing the Master of Business Management. To be eligible for progression from the Graduate Certificate to the Graduate Diploma, students must attain a credit average. Progression to the Master program will be available to applicants who have successfully completed the Graduate Diploma of Business Management. Students not wishing to undertake the full Master program may exit with either a Graduate Certificate of Business Management (tagged or untagged) by completing the required four units or the Graduate Diploma of Business Management by completing eight units.
Plus any three of:
Students who complete one or more level 7 units within their Graduate Diploma who wish to proceed to the Master in Business Management, must complete any remaining level 6 units from the Graduate Diploma.

The Master Degree requires the completion of all 12 units listed in the program structure. Entry Requirements:
Entry into the Graduate Certificate of Business Management will be available to applicants who have completed an undergraduate degree together with a minimum of 12 months relevant work experience. Applicants without an undergraduate degree are required to have significant relevant business experience, normally at least four years. Entry into the Graduate Diploma of Business Management will be available to applicants who have completed a Graduate Certificate of Business Management with a credit average, or an undergraduate degree with a minimum of 12 months relevant work experience.Entry into the Masters of Business Management will be available to applicants who have completed a Graduate Certificate of Business Management with a credit average or a Graduate Diploma of Business Management. Students whose first language is not English will need to provide evidence of advanced proficiency in written and spoken English by either: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Band 6.5 with no single band less than 6.0; orTest of English as a Foreign language (TOEFL) 580 with TWE score of not less than 4.0
Recognition of Prior Learning:
