This course will be replaced by Graduate Diploma of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CMEI540M) from 2012.
 
This program focuses on the specific needs of entrepreneurs and innovators who want to successfully commercialise their innovation. It is tailored for those who want to bring visionary attitudes and possibilities to existing business ventures or non-business enterprises.

The core of the program provides the theoretical and practical skills required to produce a comprehensive business plan integrating marketing, organisational behaviour and financial planning through a flexible corporate strategy into a business plan capable of attracting the risk capital of equity investors - venture capitalists and others.
 
The program is delivered in small, highly interactive classes by highly experience ‘pracademics’ – academics who are also practitioners in the field. It encourages students to work on real-life projects of direct relevance and interest.

A graduate of the Graduate Diploma of Entrepreneurship and Innovation will demonstrate these capabilities through:
  • Managing the complexities of growing businesses through leadership and collaboration;
  • Optimising growth through appropriate financial and legal strategies;
  • Developing integrated marketing communications to acquire and retain niche markets; and
  • Developing a venture business plan with predetermined growth strategies
It has been shown that graduates of our integrated program are capable of starting, developing and managing new business opportunities to achieve company growth.

Full-time students undertake four units of study per semester, part-time students undertake two units of study per semester*. Each unit of study may be taught in the traditional mode of one (three-hour) night class per week over a 12-week semester or in 'block mode' (usually six full days within a 12-week semester). Students are expected to spend a minimum of the equivalent class contact hours per week in private study and/or team project work.
 
*Students holding an international student visa are required to study full-time.

Swinburne offers International Exchange Programs as well as other Education Abroad Programs to help internationalise your degree. International Exchange is an academic program allowing you to study at a Swinburne Partner Institution for one or two semesters during your degree. Swinburne's Partner Institutions offer many relevant subjects as well as a secure base to explore a different culture.   • Have completed a degree at a recognised university or college of at least the equivalent of a 3 year degree at an Australian University.
  • Have completed the Graduate Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. 
  • Have such other qualifications or experience which, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, are of a satisfactory standard and suitable preparation for entry into the program.
Applicants will only be admitted to the program if they are able to demonstrate entrepreneurial experience or characteristics or show that their prior experiences provides a suitable foundation for the program.

AGSE is committed to the principles of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Our philosophy of 'Learning Through Experience' recognises that learning takes place through a variety of means including formal studies at universities, other accredited institutions and private providers, employer-based training and development, and relevant experience gained within the workforce.

Undergraduate units are ineligible as a basis for unit exemptions, however, students with a major sequence of study in a relevant discipline will have the option of completing an additional elective as a substitution. Applications for RPL should accompany the enrolment application.

International students should bring certified copies of documentation supporting any claim for exemption.

The indicative course tuition fee is $20,000 for 2012, based on one year full time load (or 1 EFTSL). The total tuition fee is dependent upon the combination of units of study selected by the student. Fees are reviewed each year and may increase.

The Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) is a suite of income-contingent loans for Australian citizens and holders of Australian permanent humanitarian visas. FEE-HELP is available to eligible fee-paying undergraduate and postgraduate students. It provides students with a loan to cover their tuition fees (lifetime maximum $85,062 from 1 January 2010). The FEE-HELP limit is indexed on 1 January each year.

Note: New Zealand citizens and holders of other Australian permanent resident visas do not have access to HELP loans. These students must pay their student contributions or tuition fees up front without a discount.
