Course Description:
The Graduate Diploma of Commerce (International Business) offers participants the opportunity to gain specialist knowledge in international business. International business has become another avenue for all organisations to grow and its study is relevant to all industry sectors. The graduate diploma forms the second stage in a three-stage nested suite of programs leading to the: Master of Commerce (International Business). It builds on the skills and knowledge acquired in the graduate certificate, further developing the analytical and technical skills that are necessary when dealing with international business issues.

Course Structure:
Part-time students will normally enrol in two units of study per semester, with full-time students normally enrolling in four units of study per semester*. Each unit of study is of 12 weeks duration with a minimum three hours of class contact time each week for part-time students or the equivalent for full-time students. In addition to formal class time, students are expected to spend a minimum of the equivalent class contact hours per week in private study, assessment preparation and team project work where applicable. *Students holding an international student visa are required to study full-time.

Stage 1 - Graduate Certificate HBI450 Introduction to International Business HBI451 International Trade and Finance HBL450 International Commercial Law HBM470 International Marketing and Research Stage 2 - Graduate Diploma All students must complete: HBH522 Managing People Across Cultures HBI553 Australian Trade and Investment HBI552 Business in Asia, the Americas and Europe And one unit of study from the following list*: HBI528 International Entrepreneurship HBI550 Trends in International Business HBI560 Asia - Business Context HBI561 European Union - Business Context HBI562 International Business in the Italian Context HBI563 Ethical Issues in International Business HBI564 International Finance HBI566 International Investment and Economic Development HBI590 European Union Study Tour HBI591 Asia Pacific Rim Study Tour *In addition to the approved International Business electives students can choose from: A range of formal international programs such as study abroad, international work placements and exchanges, subject to approval from program director.Any other unit from of any master program approved by the program director Satisfactory completion of pre-requisites for the electives would be enforced prior to commencement of any elective.
Education Abroad:
Swinburne offers International Exchange Programs as well as other Education Abroad Programs to help internationalise your degree. International Exchange is an academic program allowing you to study at a Swinburne Partner Institution for one or two semesters during your degree. Swinburne's Partner Institutions offer many relevant subjects as well as a secure base to explore a different culture. Your studies whilst on exchange can be credited towards your Swinburne degree, provided they are relevant and approved by Swinburne. For further information visit the Education Abroad website.
Entry Requirements:
Satisfactory completion of an approved undergraduate degree from a recognised tertiary institution, equivalent to a three-year Australian bachelor degree Special Non-Graduate Entry A special entry provision is available for those applicants who do not have an approved undergraduate degree, but have at least a minimum of three years approved work experience.
Course Fees:
The indicative course tuition fee is $18,400 for 2012, based on one year full time load (or 1 EFTSL). The total tuition fee is dependent upon the combination of units of study selected by the student. Fees are reviewed each year and may increase. The Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) is a suite of income-contingent loans for Australian citizens and holders of Australian permanent humanitarian visas. FEE-HELP is available to eligible fee-paying undergraduate and postgraduate students. It provides students with a loan to cover their tuition fees (lifetime maximum $85,062 from 1 January 2010). The FEE-HELP limit is indexed on 1 January each year.Note: New Zealand citizens and holders of other Australian permanent resident visas do not have access to HELP loans.
